Nomadic Tote Bag Review
I recently won a bag from the Jetpens' random giveaways. And now that I've had it for a couple of weeks and have used it off and on for that duration, I thought i would write a bit about it.
The bag that I won was the Nomadic Toto Tote Bag, and I decided I had enough black bags and that I would totally dirty up the beige bag within no time, so I went with the grey bag. The people at Jetpens were fast and efficient, the bag showed up within a week of me emailing them my address and color choice.
First -- as with all nomadic bags, the plethora of pockets and stash areas.. Oh my! The bag has a tag that explains the pockets for the bag and depicts what goes in where.
Look at all those pockets! Ok so I cant read Japanese, but I can sure follow pictures. There looks to be 2 pockets for stashing water/bottles of whatever. There is a pocket for ID's inside the large pocket. There is also a velcro'ed pocket for electronic devices (phones, cameras).
Here is the bag as it was first unpacked from the box that I received from Jetpens.
Look at all those pockets! Pocket envy -- The only problem is I have issues in finding things once i stash them into random pockets so this bag may prove to be my downfall :)
This is the bag stuffed, maybe not fully stuffed, but enough so that you can see how much it holds. The far left is the bag full -- the right 2 pictures are what was put in the bag. The far right picture was in the back pocket. The picture in the middle with the 2 jr circa, 1 nomadic pencil/pen bag and a delfonics bag with the contents of my purse (sort of like my purse organizer).
The bag is very useful so far -- I've been able to downsize my work bag/purse. I am able to put everything i need for work into the bag and keep my purse to a small bag, rather than using one of my larger totes for work stuff + purse. In addition, it holds a Letter sized notebook meaning I can carry larger sheets of paper rather than folding them for the smaller work bags that i use.
Something of note though -- one of the pockets in the back has a smaller stash section -- i tried to put pens in it, but the pens caps stick out -- not quite secure. I'll see if i can get a picture or 2 of this in the next couple of days and post an update on here.
I think this may be a great bag for travel --- I would be able to stash things in the various pockets and be able to access them without much searching. We shall see since I'm going to be going on a trip in a couple of days...

Jet Pens Giveaway

Ohto Capstick Pen Review
This pen was generously sent to me by Jetpens for review. The opinions and review does not reflect any influences from them and are my opinions only.
This is a teeny tiny pen. Per Jet Pens, this pen is "less than 4 inches long capped and 4.45 inches long when in use". It is similar in size to the Ohto Tasche needle point ball point. While the Tasche extends and becomes longer in length when you post the cap. The capstick, however, uses the cap to push the pen tip forward. The pen is available in various colors red & black, as well as pink & black. Jetpens sent me the black barrel with the pink cap. Above the right most picture is a picture of me holding the capstick next to a zebra sarsa gel pen.
The pen is pretty light, and made of I believe, aluminum -- I cannot find this exact pen on the Ohto Japan website since they have since updated it to have a wooden/brass barrel and no more push cap per a comment on the Pen Addict. The barrel of the capstick that i received is hexagonal in shape. The cap fits in the back of the pen and pushes the pen tip forward and extends it so that you can write with the pen.
While this is a cool concept, there is a potential downfall... what happens if you lose the cap? You would then never be able to extend the tip of the pen, and thus have a useless pen. In addition, since the pen is made of aluminum, i suppose if you bend the cap slightly and knock the cap askew it may not be postable any longer and then you would again have a useless pen. Cool concept, but potentially a problem if you are absent minded or accident prone.
The pen is a ballpoint pen and can be refilled. You can find the ball point refills here on Jetpens. You could potentially if you had a gel pen refill that you wanted to mutilate, like a pilot hi-tec-c slim knock, use the ink as a refill. You would have to cut the refill a bit since the slim knock refill is longer than the capstick. (I have not done this so I cannot verify the authenticity of this comment just yet -- I'll probably do it if i get a 2nd slim knock to play with). The ballpoint ink that comes with the pen writes in a dark black ink, and it does not look like i have had any blips or blobs from the ink. It writes really well - no skips on regular Arc paper. I have no problem holding the pen in my hands, but again I do have smaller hands.

If you like unique pens and want to potentially have a small pen to toss in a small purse or in your pocket, this may be a nice pen for you. However, because I am really good at losing things such as pen caps, and am horribly clumsy (i've had the pen for 3 days as I'm writing this and have basically dropped the pen at least 3 times already), this pen is probably not one I would recommend to someone like myself. In addition, I tend to have larger purses, but if i were using a smaller wristlet type purse this would be the ideal size.

Uniball Jetstream Alpha Grip Review
So some of you know that I am a fan of the Jetstream series of pens. I have several (ok maybe i have a LOT)..
but a while ago (i believe right when Jetpens first offered the jetstream alpha grip I decided that I should get the pen. What is 1 more jetstream pen, especially since i LOVE the way it writes, correct? I have several of the colors, somewhere I have a bunch of the click pens too. I tend to go towards the finer tipped pens (and why I dont own any Hi-Tec-C's is beyond me), but I love how the original jetstream pens write so why wouldnt I like this one? The grip is very squishy -- if you own another alpha gel grip pen its very similar to that. The design of the grip section is similar to the uniball Signo 207 premier? I feel that its not as squishy but my Signo has been with me for years and is now showing signs of wear and potentially the its uber squishy due to the fact that it's so old. The jetstream's grip is not as hard of a grip as say a Dr. Grip pen, but it is definitely harder than my signo's grip. If you own a Sensa (ok I know papermate killed this company) it is similar of a grip to those grips in texture and feeling. While the Sensa pen has a hourglass shaped grip section, potentially so it is contoured for your hand, the Jetstream is very rhomboidal in shape -- it tapers from the barrel to the tip.
How does it write? It comes as a 0.7mm tip, and writes like any other jetstream pen would normally write. I typically have skips on regular 20lb paper, but that is similar to any of the other jetstream 0.7mm tips I own. Here below are some pictures of the text i wrote, and some of the skips that happened. As you can see, there is some skipping, its not too annoying to me, but I suppose the skipping does annoy some people more than others.
Overall, I still love the pen, and still reach for it time and time again. But if slight skips while you write is not your thing, this pen may not be for you as it does skip occasionally. I dont really get blotches of color -- though i believe the colored ones (red, pink, light blue, etc) does sometimes blotch the colors more. The grip is very comfortable, and i find myself playing with the grip as i write. Unlike the Dr. Grip pens the grip on the alpha gel is definitely squishy and I find that as i write, if I am trying to gather my thoughts I will knead the grip -- ok maybe I am weird but its definitely a grip that you can squish around while you are gathering up your thoughts.
oh as an add-on, while talking to Aziziah from Gourmet Pens about refills and she mentioned that she liked to refill with purple ink, and for some reason there is no other color than the normal (red, blue, black) refill inks being sold, I did a quick google and discovered that No Pen Intended had done a review that stated that the Sarasa inks would work in the alpha grip, so if you rather refill with a gel ink, you could go with the Sarsa inks (yes, I did check and yes they do fit)
Below the left picture shows the alpha gel with the jetstream refill sitting out and the sarasa ink in the pen. Yes the pen does retract fine with the sarasa ink in the barrel. The picture on the right shows the alpha gel unscrewed and both the sarasa + jetstream inks just sitting out.

Pelle Small Journal
So i received this small pelle notebook the last time i did a JetPens haul and have yet to open it. Well finally it was opened today at work just for one of my twitter friends. Do i like it? Yes-- but i've not used it yet as I _just_ unboxed it now. How is it with fp ink? Don't know yet.. will test this later today but as I typically write with EF nibs, YMMV.
The notebook i bought is the small one, and I am currently regretting that i did not purchase any other inserts other than the 1 that came with it. I feel that I need more page to play with-- I assure you this is a sign of stationary/pen addiction!
The pages are smooth to the touch, if i could pet my pelle all day like a cat i probably would..
